The Woolshops name come from traders who sold Wool by the stone and not the bale and the Traders were called Staplers were called after the fibres in a measure of wool which were smaller amount for cloth produced in homes.
It is believed to be the only street in the World called this and has a mention in the 1555 Act of Parliament.
